Vacation Bible School

Emmanuel Lutheran Church holds Vacation Bible School for one week each summer. It is one of the biggest Bible School programs in the town of York.  This year will be July 22-26, 2019.

For Children entering Pre-K to 6th Grade*
Check-in starts at 8:00 am

*Children must by potty-trained and 4 years old by July 1st  of that year to attend. Younger children of volunteers during the week may attend with their parent but childcare is not provided.

We typically have 150 children attend daily, and need 20 to 30 volunteers to run the program, 25 "Crew Leaders" and as many as 10 "Station Leaders" (more like a teacher) plus anyone additional to help with opening and closing skits and music, etc..  We have a lot of children attend Vacation Bible School that are not from the Emmanuel congregation, and feel it is our mission to offer the opportunity for all children to come and hear about the word of God in a fun and creative atmosphere.

The three and a half hour day is filled with singing, bible study, crafts, snacks and recreation time all centered around a religious theme. We collect an offering each day and set a weekly goal for the children to meet. The offering has been used towards many different missions including the Crisis Pregnancy Center here in York, sponsoring a mission trip to Honduras, and the farming program through Samaritan's Purse.

Midweek School

“Whoever acknowledges Me before men, I will also acknowledge him before My Father in heaven. But whoever disowns Me before men, I will disown him before My Father in heaven.” Jesus (Matthew 10:32-33)

At Emmanuel we take seriously the responsibility entrusted to us and to families to make Jesus known to the next generation, in order that our children will acknowledge Him as their Savior and Lord. Midweek classes are available for children in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades that attend public school, or are homeschooled to share the truth of who Jesus is and what He has done for us.

Classes run throughout the school year and are held on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm. The classes for grades 5, 6, and 7 run one hour dismissing at 7:30pm, while the 8th grade class runs until 7:45pm.

The students in grades 5 and 6 are instructed in basic bible knowledge and history. Students in7th and 8th grade go through Luther’s Small Catechism, learning the tenets of the Christian faith from our Lutheran understanding.

Grades 5 and 6 and highly recommended but are not required in order to be confirmed. Grades 7th and 8th  classes are required in order to meet the requirements of confirmation.

Students who attend Emmanuel-Faith parochial school have their instruction in their daily classes and therefore are not required to attend Midweek classes.

Classes are suspended during both the Advent and Lenten seasons, in order that families may attend worship services together.

If you are interested in signing your child(ren) up for Midweek classes simply call the church office at (402) 362-3655.
